An October Dream // Kaitlin & Mason's Family Farm Wedding // Milo, IA

Oh, the comfort—
the inexpressible comfort of feeling safe with a person—
having neither to weigh thoughts nor measure words,
but pouring them all right out,
just as they are,
chaff and grain together;
certain that a faithful hand will take and sift them,
keep what is worth keeping,
and then with the breath of kindness blow the rest away.

- Dinah Maria Mulock Craik (1826-1887)

It was their first day at Iowa State. First Class. She sat in the front row, determined to get the most out of the lecture. A cute blonde boy sat down next to her. Little did she know, the main thing she would get out of that lecture was a friend. A friend who would become a boyfriend. Then a fiancé. And today, her husband.

During their wedding vows, Mason read the poem above, out of a little blue book. Of all the love poems and promises I've heard at weddings, this one stands out. The one that made me emotional thinking about my own marriage. What makes it good. Amazing love isn't all sparks. It's comfort. It's kindness. That's what's so beautiful about Kaitlin and Mason - they just love each other. As a photographer, I typically guide couples through poses, you know, telling people what to do with their hands. But with these two? Wow. I could literally just be a fly on the wall and just let them be together. They're that cute.

This day was stunning from start to finish. Kaitlin was born to be an October bride. The colors, the precious details in everything, the joyful overload of pumpkins. Everything about it just exuded joy. Maggie, Mason's family dog made her appearance throughout the day. The food was incredible. The human beings wonderful. The weather perfect. This is a day I could keep reliving for a while.

Congratulations to the Ohnemuses!

These needed their own little moment. Kaitlin was waiting for their first look and just glowing. Even the barn kitty had to come check her out.

As a gift to her husband on their wedding day, Kaitlin bought Mason a watch. And not just any watch. His dream watch - the one he's wanted since he learned what nice watches were (something that I am not attuned to). Needless to say, she was SO excited to give it to him. She waited for him, box clutched behind her, and she pulled it out as he approached.

Mason, on the other hand, was simply SO excited to see Kaitlin. He took the beautiful navy Brietling box, set it on the ground, and immediately turned his attention back to his bride. He did open the watch. Of course he loved it, and will treasure it all the more as a wedding gift. But no gift, no matter how special, could take his eyes off Kaitlin in this moment.
